Church
History
From humble beginnings as a
Sunday school class for five little girls in Dawson Springs, First Christian
Church enters the twenty-first century with an ongoing commitment to
discipleship. Our ministry has had and
continues to have a two-sided objective to both encourage disciples in their
faith, and challenge people to faith.
Children and youth have
always been an important part of our church’s history. Sunday school continues to be vital to our
discipleship efforts. In our classes
for children we seek to prepare them for faith, and in our youth and adult
classes we seek to encourage faith.
Likewise, our unfolding small group ministry is designed to provide a
variety of opportunities for fellowship within our congregation.
Reaching out beyond
ourselves is a key component of the Gospel.
In addition to participating in the mission opportunities of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we also seek to be active in our
community. We are a charter member of
the Dawson Area Personal Services ministry.
We charter a Boy Scout of America troop, and are a host for a Girl Scout
troop. Each of these helps us to
provide an occasion for people to learn about self and others.
In a new era, the church
faces new challenges. Building upon the
heritage we have received from our past, First Christian Church strives for a
vision that is God-given. Our plan for
ministry focuses on the premise that we are called to Share Good News in Word and
Work with those around us.
